Accountability
Understanding my role and responsibilities was a game-changer in my career.
This revelation came from a PSM II course led by Matthijs de Booij, where I learned that clear accountabilities are the core of success in any position.
Accountability is about knowing:
Which decisions are mine
Which responsibilities I own
The boundaries within which I have the freedom to operate and excel
This knowledge isn't just empowering—it's liberating.
It allows me to focus on developing the skills that matter most and to progress with confidence in my career.
Sharing this knowledge on the team level is a strong foundation for success of Product, Project.
However, not knowing or assuming your accountabilities can lead to chaos.
As a developer, I've seen and experienced some of those outcomes:
- follow flawed Scrum interpretations
- get sidetracked by irrelevant tasks
- compromise quality as a demand of other roles
- chaise several goals which usually is dividing the Team into sub - Teams
- watse time on every meeting to understand who is here and why instead of focusing on the meeting matter
It could easily break trust and destroy the Scrum Values.
The journey to obtaining my PSM I certification began as a flicker of curiosity about Scrum processes.
But it was the subsequent PSPO1 and PSM2 certifications that truly illuminated the path.
They clarified the roles within a team, streamlined communication, and eliminated the second-guessing that can damage productivity.
Imagine the transformation when these principles are applied across an organization.
The right questions can redefine roles, solidify structures, and unleash a team's full potential.
